we don't talk enough about the off-hand note in TLH where Jason says one of his titles is "Consul to demigods"
Tumblr media
and it's like. never elaborated on. what does "consul to demigods" entail? what does that mean. Was his pontifex maximus title actually completely redundant because he was already supposed to be the proxy between Camp Jupiter and the gods? But also it's not consul of Camp Jupiter, it's consul to demigods in general. What does it mean?

well and truly if u as a jojo fan ever err on the side of oh hirohiko araki is progressive and hes for gay rights and womens rights and trans rights. look im immensely interested in stone ocean which could trick you into thinking i agree. but holy fucking shit this author has the most GARDEN VARIETY antiblackness and homophobia and misogyny written in every inch of his stories. every Actual lgbt character in jojo is dead or an especially cruel villain or both. cant shade a person of colour with dark skin when hes the one doing the colouring (not shueisha's digital colours) to save his life. & now he cant think of a single way to make readers sympathize with a woman aside from making her suffer deeply. my friend i cant tell you what to do but i can remind u this fifty something year old man is not going to fight for your rights‼️

my other favorite aspect of being into wtnv in 2024 and onwards is that there’s a decade plus of fandom content to go through and a decade plus of ideas and people being changed by the series to experience. it’s generally pretty rare to have that kind that kind of experience with something that was popularized in the zenith of the internet becoming centralized, when people were moving from places like MySpace, geo cities and personal websites to formats like tumblr (and for wtnv’s earlier history, deviantart). (The only other fandom I can recall with a property still updating that would fit this bill is homestuck btw) it’s a transient experience of enjoying someone else’s ghosts, of a childhood/teenagehood/young adulthood you never got to experience and history you never saw for yourself but felt enough for it to mean something now. it’s the raw, unfiltered joy of what is almost nostalgia for something you never cared about until very, very recently, and realizing “oh my god the podcast is actually really good on top of it”

I mean this absolutely respectfully, but you should probably find a different duo name for Mei and MK than goldendragon--goldendragon is their ship name, so by tagging it as goldendragon, you're putting platonic content into the tags for people who are looking for romantic content of the two of them! It'd be like tagging a post about Wukong and Macaque being friends or brothers as shadowpeach--it clogs the tags and makes searching for content difficult. And again I mean this entirely respectfully, I'm not sure if they have a duo name though or what else to call them!
hi! so i figured i should explain myself a bit more in terms of using that tag lol.
i use the goldendragon tag despite me not shipping them because it's completely up to the viewer which context they decide to put the art in. i don't make the art with romantic intentions, but i don't mind people taking my goldendragon art as romantic. i just like their dynamic either way.
plus, goldendragon is the more well known tag of their duo and i want to reach the people that want to see more of them, i guess?
so i use goldendragon as the umbrella term for mk and mei. personally i don't ship them, but you are more than welcome to read my art of them as romantic.
i wouldn't call my art of them "platonic" art? it's just art of them.
tl;dr: i'm still gonna be using the tag because my art isn't strictly platonic. you can see it as romantic if you'd like. plenty of people do.

"It's so rare for R to be in her right mind for a spell. Should she really be wasting the precious little lucid time she has writing this?" "Don't worry. For a witch, this is the most important thing."
you mean to be telling me that it's an explicit point that rhinedottir is rarely in the proper state to do spells and write things like this. and of all the choices she had not to. she chooses to write it and places importance (read. it's established as the MOST IMPORTANT THING too.) in spending said-precious-time to write something with her friends commemorating andersdotter. hoyo i need youto stare me in the eyes and real the implications of rhinedottir expending what the other's are describing as her "precious little lucid time" to commemorate and make an ode to her dead friend HOYOPLEAS

"It is too easy to dismiss [Leonor of Navarre] as an overambitious schemer who would do anything to obtain a crown, shedding the blood of her own siblings and her subjects in order to attain the throne. However, a deeper investigation of her long lieutenancy and ephemeral reign shows a woman who fought tenaciously to preserve her place but also worked tirelessly to administer a realm which was crippled by internal conflict and the center of the political schemes of France, Aragon, and Castile. She tried to broker peace, fight off those who opposed her, repair the wounds caused by conflict, protect the sovereignty of the realm, and keep the wheels of governance turning. Leonor was not always successful in achieving all of these aims but given the background of conflict and the lack of cooperation she received from all of her family members, bar her loyal husband, it is a huge achievement that she survived to wear the crown at all. Many writers have argued that Leonor deserved the troubled lieutenancy, personal tragedies, an ephemeral reign, and a blackened reputation, basing their assumption that she committed a crime that cannot be [conclusively] proven. However, a more fitting description of her would be that of a resolute ruler who successfully overcame a multitude of challenges in order to survive in a difficult political landscape and gain a hard-fought throne.”
-Elena Woodacre, "Leonor of Navarre: The Price of Ambition", Queenship, Gender and Reputation in the Medieval and Early Modern West, 1060-1600 (Edited by Zita Eva Rohr and Lisa Benz)
#historicwomendaily#leonor of navarre#15th century#Navarrese history#my post#I mean...the crime can't be explicitly 'proven' but Leonor DID have the means motive and opportunity; she had the most to gain;#the timing was incredibly convenient for her; and most contemporaries believed she was responsible.#She *did* ultimately act against her brother [Carlos] and sister [Blanca]#Though of course the fact remains that:#1) The final responsibility lies with Juan the Faithless: he was the King; the one in power; and the one who rejected Navarre's succession#Blanca herself - while criticizing Leonor and Gaston - placed the ultimate blame on their father as her 'principal...destructor'#All three siblings were reacting to an unconventional disruption in the system caused by Juan & their actions should be judged accordingly.#2) I am hesitant to believe accusations of 'poison' as a cause of murder given how that was commonly used to slander controversial women#and given how it contributed to the dichotomy of Blanca as a tragic beautiful heroine and Leonor as her scheming ambitious sister#3) Even if Leonor DID commit the crime (imo she was at the very least complicit in it) she is still worthy of a reassessment.#I don't think it's fair for it to define her entire identity#Because it certainly did not define her life - she lived for decades before and would live for decades after#It was on the whole one of the many series of obstacles and challenges she had to face before she succeeded in ascending the throne.#The fact that she died so soon after IS ironic but it is in equal parts tragic. And we don't know what Leonor herself felt about it:#Did she think it was a hollow victory? Or did she feel nothing but satisfaction that she died as the Queen of Navarre? We'll never know.#Whatever the case: given her circumstances the fact that she survived to wear the crown itself was an achievement#It's funny because Woodacre parallels Leonor to Richard III in terms of 'blackened' reputations for 'unproven' (...sure) crimes#(thankfully she admits Richard has been long-rehabilitated; what she doesn't bring herself to admit is that he's now over-glorified)#But I don't think this parallel works at all for the exact reasons she uses to try and reassess Leonor#Namely: Richard was the one in power. He was the King. The ultimate blame for what happened to his nephews was his own.#and moreover: Richard's actions against the Princes DID define his reign and were exactly what provoked opposition to his rule.#Any so-called 'rehabilitation' that doesn't recognize and emphasize this is worthless#also if we want to get specific: the Princes were literal children who did nothing and were deposed in times of peace.#Carlos and Blanca were adults with agency and armies and Leonor's actions against them took place in the middle of a civil war#So ultimately I think Leonor's case is fundamentally very different and I don't think her comparison holds well at all

I'm curious as to why you think Lou was directed to only call Buck Evan? I assumed it was because Tommy is meant to be seen as different (beyond him being the only man) than all of Buck's previous LIs and that was one way of highlighting that. I'm just not sure why else he would call him Evan when no one else close to him does.
i mostly think it was because it was early in their relationship/arc. buck introduces himself as evan to people, he had previous LIs call him evan (tho not exclusively). in that post my point was mostly that i don't think the writers consider what the name evan/buck means to buck as much as we do and try to fit it into a coherent throughline for the character or a broader context. for example i dont think they were considering the implications of that scene where buck tells his parents not to call him evan when they wrote tommy's dialogue or even rolling back a step, i dont think they were thinking of that scene when they wrote eddie calling him evan that one time. at most they were thinking "yeah this'd be a cute intimate thing" without the broader context. we treat character lores more hollistic, that's why you get a million word meta about tommy calling buck evan is a sign the ship is doomed from the antis and get a million word meta about tommy calling buck evan being a sign he's special from us referencing unrelated moments from the show - i simply dont think the writers think about it as much.

It's interesting how despite everyone immediately clocking Roman as the most queercoded sibling, narratively, Kendall's queerness is more often called into question. Despite him being the only one that tried to have a heterosexual marriage with kids.
The most shocking thing to me about Logan telling Roman: "I never figured you for a faggot," is that it's only coming up now. Roman, who constantly tells his dad he loves him (which was the faggotry Logan was talking about), his effiminacy, his struggles being intimate with women, that Roman getting jerked off by his trainer was a well known rumor... Logan had never considered this before.
But with Kendall, Logan bombards him with homophobia since episode one and has continued to do so consistently. "I hear you bent for him, and he fucked you," "Is that why you're paying a billion dollars for a gay little website?" "Hey, are you queer? Did you try to fuck him?"
I didn't know what to make of this, really, except that Logan doesn't really see Roman for who he is. He was completely oblivious to Roman's feelings for Gerri, even though everyone else could see it. Logan told Roman he wants him at ATN and that "Smart people know what they are," but if he knew Roman at all, he wouldn't say that in the first place.
And then when I was looking for a certain Stewy scene on YouTube, I rewatched the one where Logan disdainfully calls Stewy "My son's college drinking buddy." That quote on its own doesn't imply anything deeper with all the context added together...
I doubt Logan would be so pissed off at Kendall merely having a friend, (even though none of his other kids have friends and isolating them is a manipulation tactic) the vitriol sounds more like he resents Stewy for taking Kendall's gay virginity or something. And even moreso for staying in his life after Kendall's failed hetero marriage. The "college drinking buddy" comment both serves to undermine their decades long relationship and calls attention to them being in college... drinking... experimenting... who knows what else.
I don't necessarily believe Kendall and Stewy would have had a sexual relationship in the past, but there are too many scenes of them being coded as lovers for me to even cite right now. If Logan had assumed they had a sexual relationship, it would have been based upon the fact that their closeness went far beyond what is usually for straight guys.
So, if Logan failed to recognize Roman's queerness because Logan doesn't see Roman, maybe Logan used homophobia against Kendall because he knew him too well.

What is it about Black Butler that sticks with you so much? Like, I read all of death note about the same time as I watched Black Butler for the first time, and much as I have boundless love for the series it just didn’t alter my brain chemistry on the same level as Black Butler did. I have a another friend who has broadly moved on from a lot of her old fandoms but is still in the kuro fandom. What is it about kuro?

i love how fanghua are so danmei coded. fang duobing as the protective nianxia ml whose life was so monumentally changed and shaped by a shifu he met only once when he was younger but whose small act of kindness moved him so deeply that he spent most of his life trying to get stronger, working hard to finally be able to catch up to and be worthy of that glorious shifu that he so admired.
except he finally meets that shifu again years later as an adult and he's finally caught up to him but now their positions are reversed - li lianhua is now the sickly one, and fallen from grace; fdb is now the (physically) stronger one, the young hero, and he becomes friends with and falls for llh who he now no. longer wants to be the disciple of. instead, he now wants to protect and care for li lianhua like one protects and cares for a lover.

on one hand I totally understand tropes are popular but on the other hand I think Amos is a lot more compelling as a middle aged woman trying to figure out her life after a loveless relationship than a mother figure ya know
#it's like. oh has anyone read price of salt? It's like carol. she's in a mess trying to figure things out#and dragging anyone close to her into that mess#bc she spent so long in an environment where she is both not getting enough attention from one who she wants#and getting attention from others who are 'below' her. not that she conciously sees people as below her but i think society#would tell Amos that she has a higher role on the hierarchy as Deca's lover than anyone else in mondstadt#...now i'm imagining an old mond rebellion where the original goal was something like 'tear down the walls reform deca' and then Amos joine#went 'no I'm gonna kill him' and the rebellion went '....okay that doesn't sound like a terrible idea he IS the one keeping the walls up'#nb's goal after all was to break down the walls and see the sky right not explicitly to kill a god#.......puts this idea in my pocket to maybe play with#saying that my initial idea of her was also viss er one / eva anim orphs based but sim idea. middle aged woman#upper class middle aged divorced woman amos who has her hands full dealing with the fallout of her own life and making it everyone's proble#i just really like Problematic Woman#saying that carol did kinda really mother therese but also their relationship was uhhhh unequal. Just a Bit#also viss e r one and eva are also both defined by motherhood in a way#except eva is 'long left the role behind bc the world thinks she's dead and her body isn't even hers anymore'#and vis ser one is 'she should NOT be a mother she is a whole empire's tactician for a reason'#anyway don't mind me waking up and starts rambling about Opinions bc my dream supplied me Stress of Snakes#<- thinks snakes are cool but has a healthy respect of them irl idk Where that dream came from#genshin talk
